How to use CyberClean™ (Belkin's Multimedia Cleaning System) on Linux

This afternoon, I went over local Fry's electronics to buy a CD Lens Cleaner.

They had three different brands - Aspect for $4.99, Belkin for $6.99 and Kensington for $11.99 -
I could not find more familiar brands such as Memorex or TDK.

I didn't want to buy too cheap nor too expansive product so I picked Belkin brand.

I noticed all three had very similar instructions:
"Insert Cleaning CD...if disk does not automatically start spinning, type d:\setup..."

What? I need Windows to clean my CD!!!! I thought this is *OS-Independent* product but I guess I was wrong.
Nevertheless, I took home Belkin product.

When I opened the plastic box and the jewel case for Cleaning CD, I noticed it's an ordinary CD
with a tiny brush attached on the bottom.

As I inserted the Cleaning CD on my Red Hat Linux 8 system, it mounted the CD and open the contents.
It contained several images and a few windows programs including setup.exe.

Then I thought how complex this windows program could it be and I've decided to install the latest wine
rpm package from

I tried to install it using setup.exe with wine but it kept giving me some error message I couldn't explain.
Then I realized there is already windows program called "CyberClean" which is executable with wine.

Cool! It launched the program but I could only see a partial window with partial buttons below.

Then I realized those three buttons below have following functions:

[ Clean ] [ Test ] [ Quit ]

Simple enough to figure it out and I was able to click on [ Clean ] button and the program actually
start cleaning the CD.

Once it's down with cleaning, it asked to press [ Test ] button to test with some images.

Finally, it asked to press [ Quit ] button to quit.

I'm not sure if other product provides similar software to clean CD and even you can use it with wine
but I thought CyberClean™ from Belkin was pretty good solution on Linux in my opinion and
personally this was a great experience with Wine!
